in the eye of the beholder
I stopped by my local thrift store just as they were wheeling out a big ol' feeding trough of wares onto the floor...and when the dust settled this pretty turned wood bowl had gone completely unnoticed... no designer name or makers mark...so no value to the resellers, but a gem to me. $1
It's easy.
I am exceptionally polite to the old gals (who are all volunteers), I never haggle over the price, I re-donate most items, and I NEVER enter the store without fresh baked cookies (or something) and either a bottle of vodka or white wine (Liz and Iris love white wine). Oh, and I always pay using cash. Just basic thrift store etiquette.
With love,
Your Aunt Mark
Today the gals from the resale store
came running outside to give me a gift for my old cat Mr. Chopper. Poor Mr. Chopper has always had a bad habit of playing in his water bowl..in fact he will jump into the shower with you. So I must keep a tray under his water bowl, this being tray #2. He does have a large water bowl in which to play in outside on the patio (what a fu$k(ng mess). The plastic tray is Jonathan Adler. The bowls are Hall pottery (I have a ton of it..), and the cat food is Science Diet for the elderly cat.
And I'm your Weird Aunt.
thrift store etiquette?
Indeed!
Its easy to see how you would charm them Mark. (Even without the food and drink)
But I should be bringing white wine, vodka and fresh baked cookies to MY Goodwill store. They would all faint. Maybe then I would start "finding" better stuff.
Nice JA tray!
My own "Ray" has a Jonathan Alder stylized head vase with some beautiful old dead flowers still in it that have now become a "hair-do". Go on, blame her.
And say hi to Chopper.
