This nice old school wallpicture...
that is showing the towers that were built for the "interbau 1957" in west berlin, basically an architecture and city planning show with contributions from people like arne jacobsen, oscar niemeyer or egon eiermann. must be from the late fifties. i like it.
I just received this:
a Braun SK 25.
Waited a long time for an example that wasn't cracked, had it's original knobs and has all it's internals.
Paid 90 euro (roughly 95$?), including the shipping.
I own already a small Braun PC 3-SV pick-up. I was hoping to connect this little thing to the SK 25, but now I see the radio features a 'din' socket (?) at the back, and my pick-up just has two cables (black & red)...
Thinking about refinishing it too, as the paint on the cabinet is weathered (the red bakelite is coming through)...
Any advise there?
Thanks Leif & Nick
I was wondering if I can strip the paint with something, without harming the bakelite.
I would only re-paint the outer case. The front and knobs I would leave alone, maybe just clean them up a bit.
I'm thinking about wich color the choose: go for the original grey or go for black, to match the plinth of my PC 3 - CV turntable?
What do you think?
I love the soft look of all grey (gives more unity) but I do like the graphic black too, certainly in combination with that pick-up...
The Braun electronics are fab.
But are they functional? Or are they considered more of a piece of art? Or a bit of both? And as usual, I would leave the original finish (warts and all) alone. They look divine as-is.
Best,
Aunt Mark
ps I still have my old Beo-Master (B&O) and a pair of Kliptch speakers from my college dorm room (early 1980's), and it still sounds pretty damn good. Maybe they'd be collectible someday.
They are very functional, Mark.
All the clutter is left and only the elementary functions are visible to the eye.
Everything is also arranged in such a way the handling is almost intuitive.
I see my SK 25 still works; lamps are glowing and there's sound coming out the little box. Only the reception is rather poor, but it's rather filthy inside, so a good cleaning maybe the answer.
The tuning ring sits rather far away from the front too. You can see in the firs pic there's a gap between the ring and the speaker face. I don't think that's supposed to be there.
Nick, if you have some advise, about the painting (or something els) please do chime in.
