Love restoration threads! cant wait to see this complete 🙂
my womb chair is a pale yellow, looks great (IMO) however its not the most practical I'd cry if i spilt anything on it 🙁
If the settee was mine (I wish) i'd go for a black boucle fabric (onyx) with a satin black frame

I think
I think the womb looks spectacular with the frame a distinct contrast to the fabric. Satin black on the frame and a deep, saturated color on the fabric.

Just found this at one of the big auction sites
Not my choice, but a quality fabric and an interesting look......
Oh, and I would certainly suggest you leave the metal silver chrome, and not do it in black.

Ugh!
Barry, that's really tiki gross. The charcoal gray wide pinstripe you posted before was much nicer.

Riki...I never suggested it was my choice
but you have to admit, it is a bold, high styled statement. I found it on Rago's auction website.

Proper fabric width
I just purchased a womb settee for 3k & it needs to be redone! They seem to have dried up, & it's been years since I've seen one available, so I decided to go for this one since I had the cash to spend this time. Makes me wish I had jumped on one years ago when they seemed much more abundant & cheaper.
I have been talking with a guy who can reupholster it (he used to do the Womb chairs for Knoll in the 60's!) & he has advised me that the fabric should be 58" wide to properly cover the size of the settee. Not as easy to find, since most fabrics today are 54".

barrympls!!!
I've come across this forum to help me find out if the 3 "womb" chairs that my boss just gave me could be real, and I find this topic of recovering.
I have 3 teal colored chairs as of yesterday and finally went to the office to bring one home. They are worn and discolored but in fantastic shape. I don't know if they are real as there are no tags of any kind and they have been in our main lobby for over 15 years.
Whether real or not, I want to recover one, possibly two of them and BARRY MPLS said he knew of a place in town (Minneapolis). I'm in St. Paul and was wondering if I could get the name of the shop.
Does anyone know of a way I can tell if these could be the real deal?
Thanks all--I'm off to scour the rest of these boards!

Great!
Hey there,
I just took a couple for you to peek at. Let me know what you think. Like I said, either way, I love them, but am really curious as to the authenticity.
Thank-you!
Heather

Thank you...
for the name of the reupholsterer. I will definitely give them a call!
I like the teal color too. The fabric is discolored from being in the lobby and I think from the wear and tear the foam has been flattened out. I just love them though!

I mentioned to David at Remnants that you would call and I just checked and he hasn't heard from you yet.
By the way, I'm in Minneapolis; which building did these chairs come from?

Hi Barry!
I finally got around to talking to David today. Sooo nice and knowledgeable too. He thinks that since the chairs are older that they probably are authentic womb chairs. He even offered to look at one if I bring it by to give it his opinion!
Thanks so much for the referral. We're not ready to recover yet (we'll have to save up!), but once we're in a new home (hopefully soon!) we'll figure out the color scheme and give him a call.

p.s. I'm in St. Paul by Como Park

I wish you'd get in touch with me directly (barrymn1@msn.com or 612-724-9537) because I'd like to talk to you and if you want, stop by and see my collection. You might find it interesting.
David at Remnants does great work and I can show you the stuff he did for me.
