Editorial Reviews
Modernist masterpieces lost and found: Rare photographs by Julius Shulman TASCHEN's Modernism Rediscovered brought to light for the first time some 300 forgotten architectural masterpieces, drawn from photographer Julius Shulman's personal archives. Paying tribute to houses and buildings that had slipped from public view, Shulman's stunning photographs uncovered a rarely seen side of California Modernism. This extensive, three-volume follow-up to that remarkable volume brings hundreds more architectural gems into the spotlight. The photographs, most of which are published here for the first time in a book, depict buildings by Albert Frey, Louis Kahn, John Lautner, Le Corbusier, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Richard Neutra, and more, as well as the work of many lesser known architects. Not just restricted to the West Coast this time, the images were taken all across the United States as well as in Mexico, Israel, and Hong Kong. Widely considered the greatest architectural photographer of our time, Julius Shulman has once again opened his archives so that we may rediscover the world's hidden Modernist treasures. The author: Hunter Drohojowska-Philp writes about modern art, design and architecture. Full Bloom: The Art and Life of Georgia O?Keeffe, her first book and the most definitive biography of the artist to date, was published in 2004. She is a regular contributor to Artnews, Artnet, Western Interiors and Design, and the Los Angeles Times.

Jeeez, I forgot it's...
Jeeez, I forgot it's existence...Seen the collection some months ago, was able to put it out my mind 🙂 until now that is.
Is the lay-out and typography any decent? Few years back I was planning to buy the Taschen Case study-house book, but the lay-out of the book kind of put me off.

just one of those books ...
just one of those books you have to have!
I think it is put together wonderful three large books with tons of great pictures and broken up in three volumes, saw at a book store in NYC in October and wanted it then, just did not want to fork over three hundred
bucks plus tax and shipping to OKLA, saw it at the show in Palm Springs last week for 300 bucks again, still did not want to fork over the bucks or tax , and saw it on Amazon for 208.00 plus 4.00 bucks for shipping , real tempting and hard to pass up, now damn glad i bought it , cause to me it is the holy grail of mid century modern architecture, Julius Shulman has been everywhere in 70 years to shoot every memorable home, building, object, and any thing that ever dealt with modern architecture (what a amazing life to be able to do that ) it will be one of those book sets that will be a classic in 5 years and you will be sorry you did not get it, for a bargin price, I have seen so many like this that i passed up and they go up and up instead of getting cheaper,

Good heavens, Batman
it's $233.00 for this book.
I've never paid that much for a book...wonder if my coffee table will support it?

Great book
I had of of them and it was excellent, full of all the best furniture(Eames Galore) and houses. I probably looked through it 300 times for ideas, pictures are superb and are aplenty. I never knew it came from a set of 3, another nice score by LRF. Classic Modern is great too and one of my favorites, full of high quality pictures from all the best houses.

I wanted that 3 book set when it came out and when i saw some bookseller had a new set for 208.00 on Amazon never opened ....... well
i jumped and it looks like several more are available, It is just one of those things that you will regret not buying ,
I have seen a book set for over 300 on modern homes on Amazon for over a year and no budge, on the price , but i keep hoping,

Olive
Olive i know you are a devout enviromentalist and that is great!! but a giant pile of paper it represents.?
Knowledge is Power! any way you have to get it, never look at a book as a giant pile of paper
that is is not smart.

And I don't think I qualify as devout...
nor do I think I want to! I'm not vegetarian. I don't wear hemp anything, nor do I have dreadlocks. I don't have organic cotton sheets or a veggie powered 20 yr old car. I'm just a normal person trying to be more planet-safe and aware of the consequences of my decisions.

This is one of those books that should be on everyones wish list.
Eat out less, buy a bit less, somewhere in your personal footprint, justify owning it.
(if you coffee pot has a 'keep it hot and burn it' element, get an insulated replacement caraf
that keeps it warm...keeping it warm electrically costs about 250 a year)
This book is worth it's full price.
I've bought some recent books that really don't give much in the long run.
I don't have this one yet. But it is the one that has kicked a few clunkers
off my amazon 'save for later'.
The energy saving hint is kind of a joke. But some things just transcend that
thought....and i'm having steak for dinner....and i'll have that book eventually.

Mmmm
I'm oogling this one! For a Taschen book, the price IMHO is over the top. $150 seems more realistic (or $50 per book).
