any idea if George nelson really designed the bookends
some say he did others say he did not what is the real story any idea,

Close to the subject
I've seen "George Nelson" attached to almost every Jax bookend set on Ebay and have wondered that myself. Of all the books I've looked through, which is probably nothing close to what you have, I've seen nothing mentioned. I recall hearing something about George making a huge sculpture of one, but I can't remember where. Cost Plus Imports was selling the Jax bookends a couple years ago for $15 each.

Not George Nelson
but Bill Curry for Design Line of California, referenced in the California Design Annual but I don't know which one.

I think the George Nelson...
I think the George Nelson attribution may have started from a photograph of a Nelson desk which had jax bookends in the background.
I will try to find the photo and post it.
