I recently picked up a set of older Ion chairs. Just wondering if anyone has ever had luck finding replacement shock mounts (edit - probably better described as bushings). The mounts on mine are all intact but they are a little dried out with a few fissures here and there. Just planning ahead.
My chairs were apparently made in Seattle before the American Desk Corporation started manufacturing them but I'm assuming the mounts are compatible (were I to find some ADC mounts).

Got some
A while back I bought over a hundred of the chairs so I do have some of the short shock mounts as spare parts. Also I could use some of the larger mounts if anyone has any.

I called the American Desk Co...
I called the American Desk Corp and they said they no longer had any parts for the chairs.
I wonder if a rubber manufacturing outfit could make some.
Anyway, if you have spares I'd certainly be interested in buying them.

dielectric grease, misc ramblings
Not having much luck finding freshies for all the chairs at once.
So, how to protect what's left? After researching various rubber treatments I settled on silicone grease (dielectric grease at the auto parts store). The results are pretty good. I was worried it was going to end up collecting dust/dog hair but it has gradually soaked in.
As an aside, though I love the chairs they are prone to tip over when kids and drunk adults try them out. I see that later versions widened the stance at the base and made a few other adjustments.

Well...not really sure about ...
Well...not really sure about that. I'm assuming it's a synthetic rubber but it's not neoprene (I don't think). Edit: Just read about neoprene...could definitely be neoprene.
Edit: Here's an excerpt from Herman Miller describing their mounts: "The contours the molding process creates out of plywood fit the body's shape. The plywood has five plies, with hardwood inner plies. Natural rubber shock mounts absorb movement."
So maybe these are natural rubber too?

bushings for sale
There is someone selling fresh bushings on ebay now (no affiliation). Pricey. I'd have to drop close to $500 for new bushings for my 5 chairs.
