Newbie
Confession...
I'm a former lurker, I've crossed over. Danish/Scandinavian is my thing, but a got soft spot for almost anything. I'm a humble design admirer. I don't have a relationship within the design industry in anyway. However, I do have loads of questions and thoughts, but I'll dish em out appropriately.
WoofWoof
oh..and an avid record collector, scouring the musical landscape for those songs that captivate me

AJ- sculptor and collector
I am AJ. I'm 34 and live in Eugene, Oregon USA.
I have been producing original sculpture and some custom furniture for a couple years now. I work in a metal shop as a fabricator to pay the bills but hope to make a living at my art full-time some day. Most of my recent sculptures are of living forms produced with rectilinear tubing.
I'm also an avid collector of modern design objects; furniture, housewares, art, you-name-it! My grandparents owned a furniture store in the 1960's and I guess their interest rubbed off. I've had some great luck in the past 6 months. I recently purchased a wonderful Greta Grossman dresser for $4.99 at a local thrift store.
Recently, I started a website for modern design enthusiasts here in Eugene, Springfield and Lane County Oregon called eugenemodern.org

AJ, beautiful dresser....
but where on earth are you going to find two more knobs?
Grossman certainly is a under-appreciated high quality designer.....

Pieff
Killian - interested to read your interest and ownership of pieff furniture. I have been searching for information and or an original catalogue of for pieff and would particularly like to own a brown leather and chrome recliner and ottoman by them - which escaped me last year on ebay. Do you have any information that may help my search for my pieff chair?
Phil, Southport PUK

Introduce yourself here
Perhaps, this thread should be always up, or somewhere, or redone in other shape, as part of a welcome to new users.
They,ll know a bit about DAers, and at the same time introduce themselves if they want/when they want.
I re-read it very often, when someone say something, to understand what they want to say and what/how to answer/reply.
This way we may know, as well as the state/country, as well as other important things as, age, collector//producer//designer//aficionado, etc, etc.

I missed this earlier!
I'm 53 and am a very small-time dealer of antiques and collectibles. Danish design from the 50s and 60s is my passion and I've picked up a lot of things at local (Baltimore, MD) auctions over the years. Living in Denmark for a year and visiting many other times has heavily influenced my taste.
I also love to upholster furniture, which means I get stuff for cheap that other people shun because it needs re-doing. This drives my husband nuts because it makes for a crowded, messy home, but he likes what I do with them.
My three kids are all into mod design to varying degrees. My 18-year-old just took an Eames-style lounge chair to college for his dorm room...

OMG hi2u.
33 year old male, residing in Pennsylvania, USA. Became interested in modern design about 8 years ago (when I purchased my first home). Current collecting interests include vintage Eames, et al., German relief pottery, and a dabbling in African and outsider art.

Ivana
I'm a design student 🙂 24, from Slovakia (middle europe)
I really enjoy reading DA comments, since I'm here I've learned a lot although I always feel I know too little. I like furniture design, and small usefull stuff that makes your day nicer. I've been doing a lot of reading about design, Donald norman-emotional design, Naomi Klein-no logo, Jan Michl... 🙂 in case you have some interesting recomendation, just write...

Hi, everyone
Riki, 46, female, living in South Carolina, USA, about to be hit by Hurricane Hanna. I became interested in modernist design about 4 months ago when I purchased a 1957 home that needs furnishing. Most beloved purchase so far, 6 Kai Khristiansen dining chairs with the movable backs in original fabric. Find myself drawn to the Scandinavian masters whose work I find to be a bit more sensuous than the Americans.
I've been in the antiques trade for years, but now find myself unable to purchase anything except MCM, so my two shops are taking on a whole new appearance! Don't know how that's going to go over in SC (very conservative), but I don't really care because I'm having so much fun.
You long-time DAs have been a huge help to me and I just wanted to say thanks.

Brecht-Jan, 24 years old,...
Brecht-Jan, 24 years old, living in Belgium.
Studied visual arts/painting, now looking for a job that gives me time to paint and expand my ways of collecting vintage design.
Always been interested in a wide range of antique and vintage, (I have a strange longing for weird architectural ceramics like the ones made by Christopher Dresser) but moved up now mainly to scandinavian forms.
I love Finn Juhl, Kjaerholm, Risom, Jacobsen...
Lately scored some very nice pieces of teak-furniture in the 'danish' style, but locally made. This triggered my interest for gone-by local furniture makers, something I would like to dig deeper into.

great idea, gustavo!
i know i've often wondered about the background of someone here; it simply helps to contextualize their contributions.
the idea could be accomplished as easily as forcing this thread [or another titled something like "tell us about yourself"] to always appear at the very top of the forum list.
perhaps patrick and alix [our lovely belgian hosts] would facilitate this? p? a? hmmm?
😉

Well, I see
I haven't posted here yet. Stephen (New York, Massachusetts and California), designer/woodworker, 65, recently freed myself from the harness of a regular job, in favor of getting out of the house after nine, and relaxing over coffee before ambling off to my work/play day. Keeping busy with work for friends, making things with a less sophisticated shop (so far) and a minimal budget.
My education was expected (by some) to ready me for a professional design career, but it didn't, and I find I'm quite content as a mechanic (in the broad sense) and a lifelong student of architectural and furniture design, most particularly that of the past century, which I'm confident is the most amazing 100 years yet in the story of Man the maker.

hello. my name is Joshua. i live in Jackson, MS.
i was turned onto this labyrinth of obsession by my friend, whitespike, and have since accrued a hefty sum of knowledge from you lot. i myself am a bitter failure of a writer quite pleased with all i've accomplished. but more importantly, i like chairs. tables as well, though not quite so much. as for those I adore, they are the usual suspects... Charles, George and Eero. i've become quite the tyrant in regard to the design of these men and their cohorts and you'll find me rather unapologetic to boot which is rather ironic due to my hatred of all things exorbitant. apart from this, i'm just as unreasonable as the next fellow.
