In a nutshell, "Americans were promised one thing during World War II: life was going to be amazing in the "world of tomorrow." But when the war ended many companies, along with the U.S. government, turned back on that promise as quickly as they could."

Thank you Eric.
I enjoyed that. I've always had a certain affection for Lustron Homes. Many thanks for your posting.
Best,
Mark (Aunt)

Thanks Mark
I hadn't heard of the Lustron homes before. Interesting, if not quite the pre-fab modern most of us prefer.

.
Not a bad thing.
We now have a better understanding of how prefab houses should look and work. The momentum needs to continue in the US. But construction cost is still relatively high for a modular system and site context is problematic. Hidden site conditions have also exceeded contingency allowances in some instances. The modular system has impacted construction methods more than the affordable housing market.
