Just currently replacing items in my house and was looking for a new desk and a tv unit. I had my eye on the Eames Desk Unit - Does anyone have one/seen one? What is the quality like? Any other ideas? My walls in the office are currently a very light grey, with a dark grey leather eames 217 chair. I have some prints on the walls with chrome frames etc and would like something with chrome/polished details. Regarding the tv unit, something Rosewood and low would be great to match my Vodder book case and coffee table. Again chrome details would be good, with storage for my digi box etc - The problem with sideboards is that I don't want to drill any holes in the back for cabling, which is causing me problems to find something suitable!

It's
hard to imagine ruining a sideboard by drilling one or more neat holes in the back, which is a surface never seen in normal use. You might hesitate to do so in an antique, of course.

I don't have an EDU but I hav...
I don't have an EDU but I have a couple of ESU's, one is a single unit and the other is a double height 4 unit, the smaller 150C is Herman Miller and the larger is Vitra, although they are both new (2007) there is considerable differences between the 2 (I have them side by side) every element is different from the thickness of the plywood to the size of the glides,
They are both beautifully made, very sturdy and surprisingly heavy! i suspect the HM is more faithful to the original design however for me the Vitra is the nicer of the two,

Herman Miller ESU
We have a Herman Miller 1 high/2 wide ESU and our 40" LCD TV sits on top. I had gone through way too many TV stands and this is the only one I have been happy with. The ESU and the desk are made really nice, I like they way the colors(I have the Natural ESU) break it up and it doesn't look like one big chunk of color. If we needed a desk we'd get the Eames. I'd prefer the materials that make up the Eames Desk and ESU over the MDF/Veneer combo(I still can't understand how some of this MDF furniture can be so expensive). If your in the USA, Room and Board has a lot of nice furniture.

Desks are difficult
Strangely, of all the types of furniture you can buy new from the mid-century era, there's fewer desks to choose from.
I have a desktop computer - not a notebook - and i wanted a solid well design desk. I couldn't find anything from Knoll or Herman Miller that was right.
I bought a Blut Dot Paperclip desk, which is no longer available. It's very solid, to be sure and looks nice.
As far as a 'built in' type wall unit for your TV, I had thought of buying a knockoff ESU, but I found a really nice TV cart from Kartell, on eBay for a fraction of the going rate. I like the occasional look and don't have the vast wall scape in my den for a big piece of furniture.
One suggestion is to get a credenza and set the TV on top.
Here's the desk, printer unit and TV cart I'm using.

EDU
The Eames Desk is pretty good. A friend of mine has one as his work desk - a design professor at Harvard. The desk is pretty damn solid, the only problem hes told me about is that he occasionally has to tighten the screws that hold the x bracket across the back - because he uses that as a footrest.
The one issue I would have with it is that it has no cable management. He's solved the issue by using cord wrap for all of his monitor, keyboard, mousecords. He's got a scanner on the little cubby next above the drawer. And you can get it in the colors version to pop against the grey walls.
As for a credenza, the ESU's have easily removable back panels... or you can get one with the open xbrace panel. But no rosewood. DWR was touting one with built in media storage - including pre-drilled holes for cable management. That might take some of the guilt away of drilling through a vintage piece. Link below.
