and
Maloof's pieces got ever more science-fantasy in their appearance as time went on, didn't they ? Lord of the Rings (if not Lord of the Flies) -- at least to my eye. . .

Science - Fantasy? Not that...
Science - Fantasy? Not that I'm aware of. I've always associated Maloof's work with a Danish Modern appearance.

as we know...
promising is both easy and common,
but delivering is the measure of success.

Jeff --
I know you have -- and so did I. But look again at that late chair above. Doesn't it look like it could eat you, or take off and fly ?
Any aspiring presidential candidate who at this point promises not to get us into a thermo-nuclear war is the guy I'd go with -- just on faith !

Woooshhhh
I'm with SDR.
Maloof pieces have been owned by Pres. Jimmy Carter and Pres. Ronald Regan. Regarding the rocking chair, a wonderful synthesis of traditional and progressive design...considering the era...late 60's-80's. A good marraige for the White House if you ask me.
Would it be safe to say the Maloof was one of the more accessible of the California craftsmen's of that era. There were some pretty wild things made back then (still are???).

Hmm... I get a curvaceous sensuality vibe from Maloof's work.

Ha !
Oof -- now I'm going to have to look through the two late-seventies Fine Woodworking Design Book annuals that I have, to find examples of High California Woodcraft from the Late Romantic period. . .!
"House Raising and Leveling" ? Where did you find Mr Lincoln, Rockland ? New Orleans ?

Doh!
Bansky's great! Perfect for Parliment not the White House...unless you're implying something else...say, political influence...
This being more inline with the threads theme.

Here's something else for one of the walls
awesome
Maine artist creates HOPE image decades after LOVE
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) ? The Maine artist who brought LOVE to the world is doing the same with HOPE.
Robert Indiana decades ago created the pop icon LOVE, known worldwide with its letters stacked two to a line, the letter "o" tilted on its side. Now he has created a similar image with HOPE, with proceeds going to Democrat Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

I'm a Democrat and the Republican Convention is in St. Paul (I'm in Minneapolis) and the metro area will be swarming with conseritive people with no sense of good design, lol.
I started this thread solely as a joke, but for the next 4 days, it'll be no joke!

Funny ENough
Ha, Barry - not to one up you but...
On Monday my boyfriend and I move in together. I'm a bluer than blue progressive Democrat, he's a red blooded libertarian leaning Republican. I love Modern. He loves Federalist/Colonial/Georgian.
We've been discussing additional furnishings in the house - He wants the dining room to look like the first picture, I want it to look like the second - which means we're probably going to settle on something like the third...
I have no idea why we get along, but we do 😀

Ouch !
You guys need to do different rooms in different styles -- or maybe have a modern house and a traditional one -- someday ?
Anyway, congratulations !
