My mom bought this couch frame for me 21 years ago. At the time I didn't know what it was, I just really liked it. A couple of times my husband and I contemplated ways to monkey up some straps, but it eventually was disassembled and put in the attic (about 15 years ago).

I started thinking about it the other day, and brought it down and cleaned it up with some Howard's Feed and Wax. When I reassembled, I realized it was pretty Frankensteinish looking. The arm/leg pieces look like they might be walnut as does the rail between the legs under the seat and the rail across the top of the back rest. Everything else looks much lighter, and I am thinking beech.

If you pictured it with cushions on it, you would expect fading on the exposed parts, but this is the opposite, the exposed parts are dark and what look like walnut.

Any thoughts? Not that it really matters, because I still love it and am ordering straps and looking at fabric.

The "exposed" parts are teak. The "hidden" parts are beech. They are just different colored wood. The beech is the "secondary" wood. The catalog says it comes in teak, but I believe that stained beech is much more common. Yours is definitely the deluxe model.
It is absolutely gorgeous. You should put the time and money into doing it right. Get the real pirelli rubber fagas straps. And the upholstery should be a period appropriate wool. Take a look at textiles by Kvadrat or Knoll. It would look fantastic in Knoll's classic Bouclé in bright red.

Thank you for your response. Are you indicating that it might not be a Frankenstein and actually came with the two different woods? Well, that's kind of cool if so. And goodness, I didn't realize teak could be as pretty as this looks.
I was actually looking for a Boucle in orange. I will check the names you mentioned. I have been looking around at straps the last few days, and it sounds like the original fagas straps are being discontinued. Any reason for that? I was leaning towards the clips with the black and red straps. Guess I better rethink it.
Did I mention I love this couch. I am so glad I got it out of the attic.

Yeah, not a Frankenstein at all. That is authentic, original, etc, etc. And teak is absolutely beautiful wood.
I would just go with Fagas straps because they are the most authentic replacement, and this is easily a nice enough sofa to merit going the extra mile. You could also just buy the pirelli rubber strapping and the little metal clips. Perhaps that is what you get from the Fagas straps place; I am not 100% certain. Or perhaps you get the completely molded rubber straps with the clips integrated.... Someone else here will know for certain.
