or nearly so, but does $475 for this Grete Jalk chair fall into the "not to be missed" category of opportunities? Do I have the group's blessing to spend myself into oblivion?

.
475 sounds like a very resonable price to me. If the condition is good I would snap it up.
I have one for sale at the moment but I certainly couldnt match that price.
Check to see if the cushions are original, they should be sprung inside like a mattress.
Good luck.

Thank you. I would not have...
Thank you. I would not have known to check the cushions, and will do that when I go over this morning to see the chair.

Yes, great advice and nice...
Yes, great advice and nice chair~!
My advice is, no matter how good the deal, unless you stand to make some real $$$ I would pass unless I really had a need/use for it.
I have gotten to where I'll just let things go. You'd be surprised at the satisfaction you can have for doing so... Unless you love it and can use it.

It would have been great
if the cushions were original, but they were foam replacements. However, the wood/frame of the chair was so nice that in the I went ahead and bought it anyway and brought it home (2 hr drive altogether). I have wanted a Jalk chair for some time. I just love the profile. A sofa would be more useful for me, and is something that has eluded me so far, but the chair will be useful.

Don`t beat yourself up about...
Don`t beat yourself up about the cushions, as long as the frame is sound then you can recover the foam with a fabric of your choice and it will look great.
Nice chair.

Thanks,
I was starting to worry about just how important the cushions were. When I got there and saw they were replacments I kind of wished I knew how important it was, relative to their asking price. But by that point I was confronted by all that...teakyness, and without really being aware of myself doing it, my wallet had come out and I was counting $20 bills into piles of five on a stranger's coffee table.

those particular bent metal...
those particular bent metal supporting rods on the chair's seat--are they a distinguishing mark, or widely in use? I have a teak loveseat that uses them....

On this chair
they are tightly coiled wire springs that are coated with a protective vinyl. I am pretty sure I have seen them used on other brands of furniture. These do not seem worn out, or loose, but I do not know how their life-span compares to the "Fagas" rubber strap material you also often see used for seat support.

My guess is they've been widely used as I've seen this type of supporting rods used at least on Peter Hvidt's chairs and sofas for France & Son..

I paid 250 euros for my Grete Jalk coffee table and I thought that was a very good price, so your 475 dollars seems quite in line with that. Pretty chair.

Thanks.
I was a little nervous about the purchase at first, but now that it is in front of me I am sure I did the right thing. The design and craftsmanship are wonderful, and it would be hard to argue that $475 was not more than reasonable.

Beautiful chair.
A shame it needs cushions. : )
I searched a bit for reference of original ones.
I'd have them replaced correctly when you have the funds.
Seems a fair price and no shipping involved. No stress or risk of damage
or hidden repairs that on-line shopping often brings. Seeing it in
person is always the better option.
