Let me count the ways...

Gio Ponti (1953), a man who knew how to get comfortable.

This chair by Ponti...
foreshadows heavy modern; i.e., post modern surfaces and mass shorn of ornament. He just skipped post modern and got right to it. No messing around with crafting space here, or creating a mass that defies gravity. Check out the baloney slice planes coupled with runt legs. I shouldn't like this chair, but I do...and quite alot.

I think that I shall never see...
a chair as lovely as one by Gio Ponti.
My absolute favorite designer.
I have one of his tall artisan ladderback chairs in an odd but conspicuous space in my home. It is downright silly to sit on, but what a joy to the discerning eye to linger upon. ( look at the bottom of the link below for the pic).

Now that's what I call a real ladder back...
The only way he could top that would be and extention ladder back. 🙂 Seriously, it is an interesting looking chair. It is always nice to find another smitten by the same designer's work. I guess we are Pontisti. It is even fun to say.
