I wish I had a photo, but my childhood library had bertoia diamonds and knoll sofas. the knoll sofas were reupholstered in the early 90s with some god awful maroon, hunter green and country blue floral upholstery. Painful.

Thankfully, this is a condition that can be remedied.

This has remnants of a pastel blue upholstery under it. I always imagine the person being offended by the pastel colour and needing something more tasteful to recover it in.

It's almost always 1980's fabric, too--
It's Laver's law, applied to furniture:
In its day (1950's/ 60's), the original upholstery was considered "smart".
Ten years after its time (1970's), the original upholstery was considered "dowdy".
Twenty to thirty years after its time (1980's)-- hideous.
And here we are, in 2010, finding the 1980's fabrics appropriately hideous.

.... your photo isn't showing up for me, and maybe for others too, perhaps that's why there is a lack of response. I really want to know the joke!

Oh, sorry.
The first photo below is a new copy that everyone should be able to see.
In my original post, the photo's URL identified the subject; the joke only makes sense if you have that information. Unfortunately, this new one's URL lacks that hint... So the next two photos explain the joke by showing how this modern piece was commonly upholstered back in the 60s.

Going on 60....
She'll still be hot when she's 80.
A mid-century classic.
