Casually scanning Craigslist for HM pieces yesterday, I found and later purchased this ETR via phone from a dealer for roughly what one would usually expect to pay for this. It's now due to arrive next week. Later that evening, while re-reviewing the posted photos of my new table, I began to wander off, Googling several images of other examples of it (auctions for originals, new and used re-issues, knock-offs, etc.) After looking at quite a few, it struck me that the Herman Miller label under the table that I purchased, and haven't actually seen in person yet, didn't look like all the rest. I hadn't come across at least one exact match to it... font, capitalization, letter-spacing, white dot behind logo or even nails. I did catch the fact, from an earlier post in another thread, that later early/mid? 2000s labels, were merely glued on but still - I'm concerned about not spying at least one other matching label or even that 'particular' label on any other HM piece. I'm wondering if someone, with more experience than me, can shed some light on my label-paranoia. I'm not all about labels. I would just like to verify that this isn't a known, tell-tale sign of a fake and that this ETR was actually produced by HM. What do you think,.. any advice or commentary would be very much appreciated.
A friend at work just showed...
A friend at work just showed me some photos of a Herman Miller Eames Elliptical Table he bought off of craigslist last night. The seller said it was a limited production wood top for some HM executives at one point. He took a photo of the label.
As I am not very familiar with Eames stuff, I did a quick google search but could not find any images of this table with wood grain top. Did my friend find a rare piece, or did he get sold a knockoff with a label glued to it? I have not yet asked how much he paid.
Sorry, he did not take any detailed photos of the base or top edges just yet, but will this weekend.
additional info
Here are some more photos of the base and table edge. I still have not seen the table in person, but from the edge photo, it appears that the wood veneer is laminated on top of the regular plastic laminate piece, rather than as a replacement for it.
Exact dimensions are 89 3/16" long by 29 5/16" wide by 9 11/16" tall, with a 13-ply top (not including face laminates). The edge bevel angle appears to be the correct 20 degrees.
I sent a note off to Herman Miller, but have not yet heard back.
