A friend of mine is an online dealer. He has a set of sconces priced at $2500. He received an email through his website from an "Elise Thomas" the other day that read:

dear
can i make you an offer for the sconces of 2000 dollar
i have a client in belguim who is intrested
thanks to reply

His reply was:

Hi and thanks for your message,

Could you tell me specifically which item you are refereing to? Thanks.

Elise Thomas replys back:

DEAR
I CANT GO ON YOUR SIDE FOR THE MOMENT , BUT IT CONCERNS THE SCONES ON YOUR SIDE , DEPARTMENT LIGHTING PRICE 2500 DOLLAR

THANKS TO REPLY
HAVE A NICE DAY

Now in my opinion, this smells like a scam. Yes? No? Anyone else getting emails from a Elise Thomas?

Scam....or no scam?
This sounds like a game show on NBC, doesn't it?

Then scam
it is.
My friend is a DA sponsor, so the scammer might have found him through this site.
So if there are other dealers out there reading this, who also advertise here, beware....

One view
Although my first thought is to ask if you want SCAM with your coffee, maybe someone is using a online translator. Most likely it's a scammer.

misnomers
sdr - good one! no wonder the chap keeps getting pointed toward the bakery when he simply wants to buy lighting.
and here's a true story of my own malapropism: i am an avocational woodworker, and quite a number of years ago i mentioned [in mixed company] something about "erotic" hardwoods. of course, i meant "exotic" hardwoods, but as quickly as i spoke it, i honestly had a difficult time understanding why so many people seemed embarrassed for me.
in the end we all got a good laugh out of it, albeit at my expense!

I have
received scam spam a couple of times trough design addict after advertising something for sale on the classifieds. They are usually easy to spot.
My "buyer" offered more for the item, sight unseen. Then claimed it was 4K to ship it! He wanted me to receive the check and write a personal check for the shipping to send to his friend. Yeah right.
