always have a tough time thinking of birthday gift ideas for my wife (she's super practical, unfortunately) but this year she suggested that she would like a good book on Art Deco. She likes the style quite a lot, but doesn't know much about it. I'm thinking of getting her a good coffee table book with lots of images, but would also like something a bit more explanatory about the development of Art Deco, when and where it developed, its antecedents and followers, etc- something that "places" it in the architectural tradition. So perhaps two books- one with a lot of pictures and one with more "history."
Do you guys have any suggestions as to which texts I should look at getting?
Looking At My Bookshelves
I have 6:
Art Deco Sourcebook Patricia Bayer /Quarto
In The Deco Style Dan Klein, Nancy McClellenad
and Malcolm Haslam /Thames & Hudson
The Art Deco House Adrian Tinniswood /Mitchell Beazley
Art Deco Painting Edward Lucie Smith /Clarkson Potter
Art Deco Prints Guiliano Ercoli /Phaidon
and
The Decorative Twenties Martin Batterby /Whitney
I would imagine the Taschen Decorative Arts Series for the Twenties/ Thirties must also be as good as the others in the series ?
