Hello,

I recently purchased Thin Edge cabinetry (dresser/credenza and two side cabinets) which I am having restored and refinished. I know they are authentic, however, the drawer and door pulls I have not seen on Thin Edge pieces except for only once before. I am wondering if someone can shed some light on the pieces. I am embedding pictures, so I hope it will work. Thanks.

Dont let em get too heavy handed with this refinishing...you may have all the quality belt sanded away...

Wish I
could see a picture -- including close-ups of the surface(s).
What do you think of the current thinking among curators (or at least auctioneers) that an unrestored finish is more valuable than ANY alternative ? Will this become as important to Modernist furniture as it is with earlier antiques ?
[A random orbital sander is certainly the most aggressive power tool that should ever touch finished furniture !]

Many people, the general public for sure do not want ANY sign of age or use.Its unrealistic and so much furniture is reduced in value and to my eye,in looks...

General condition
Overall, I don't want them to be perfect or appear to have had use...I want them to show their age, but in their current state, I can't do much with them...they require some restoration work.
I embedded pix before, but it looks like they didn't take...I'll try again:

I am sorry those thin edg...
I am sorry those thin edges need to be redone they look like crap in the present conditon . i would not want them in my home looking like that . If you were lucky enough to be able to find one of the greatest pieces that George Nelson made
Have them done by a professional, they know what to do or they would not be making a living out of it ,
You or I or any one on this forum unless we are a professional should not be fooling
around giving advice on these treasured pieces, cause that is what they are and will be when they are restored, if you have any questions get Nelsons Book or lok at First dibs and you can see what good ones sell for.

I am looking at a BSC as...
I am looking at a BSC as i type this
I must have looked at it fast and thought that they were thin edge, I think i was thrown of by the legs a mine is not the the buffed aluminum pedestal legs,
As you are aware like me, those are very valuable, The one that i have is worth around $3800.00 it is good condition with minor scratches but the color is good in Primavera The thin edge was done in the light brown I still would only let a professional redo those sorry for the error,

sorry that is BCS Basic Cab...
sorry that is BCS Basic Cabinet series I have had mine for years and it looks so cool under my flat panel t.v.
I did see a wonderful houseful of the Thin edge when I was in NYC earlier this year,
I liked the white knobs on the ones I saw , I know that series brings big bucks
Herman miller just released the small chest with white stand several months ago, I saw a original, and would have loved to loaded it up in the Taxi but
my cousin would have known who took it , lol,

Seeing a photograph is illuminating, yes, they do need some work. The thin edge is FAR less common...you might see one piece to every 20/30 plus BCS series pieces .The BCS looks good stacked and actually has varied applications in interiors.Thin edge group is a little effete compared to BCS...

Many thanks
I sincerely appreciate everyone's postings. Yes, it does appear that these are the BCS (Basic Cabinet Series) pieces with the Y-type pulls and the aluminum legs. I had never seen these pulls before nor had I seen the aluminum legs on the BCS pieces. Either way, I only paid $1200 for these 4 pieces (dresser/credenza, smaller dresser/credenza, side cabinet and 2 bridge vanities). Once the pieces are restored and refinished, they'll look fantastic. To answer "Azurechicken" comment, I do intend to restore and refinish these but maintain the natural wear and tear that the pieces have acquired over the years. What I want to do is bring them to an acceptable level to have the pieces for use in my apartment...they are simply too tattered right now in their current state.

Yes restore them,as they are...
Yes restore them,as they are a bit beyond mellow wear, a photo was needed for comments. You might be surprised how many people want to strip/restore damn near perfect items.Great price for that many pieces.Great uncommon pulls.I love how BCS series slide so easily, you will really enjoy using them...
