another victim of Modern DesignClassics
I paid for my Modern Design Classics furniture by Paypal but it does not show up in my Paypal account. How is this possible?
I wish I had done some research on this band of crooks ...
Is there anyone who has actually EVER received an order from them?

try this!!
they delivered !!!!!!
Hi,
I promised to keep you updated. Well it has to be said...filing the fraud report at the london metropolitan police did the trick. As I wrote I put them in copy and two days later the goods were shipped, I was provided with the necessary proof of shipment...and the chairs arrived today save and sound. No trace of Classics in Stock, but enough tape from JCM furniture on the boxes.
Ii can give you the shipping details where the goods came from if interested.
This ends the story for me from CIS. I've posted the adresses where to file your fraud reports earlier. You can do something about it. be persistent, and don't give up. Some of you have spent far more money on the guys than I have.

Report to the Serious Fraud Office
I found this forum too late and like most of you will never see any furniture or any money back. I too have dealt with both Brian English and Milly He and have phoned their call centre on a daily basis but cannot get past the front line staff.
Having read your stories today, I have reported my case to the Serious Fraud Office but they only deal with cases over £1m. I have given them all the various names these people trade under as well as their bank details (where we had to transfer money into). I have also informed them that there are many other cases like mine and together this involves a fraud of over £1m.
I will keep you informed of any progress but in the meantime, I intend to write to John Christopher; Brian English; Milly He to inform them that I have reported them to the SFO. You may wish to do the same.

Refund actually received from John Christopher
I placed an order for a lamp with Modern Classics Direct back in April this year, and paid for it using Bank Transfer, as this method meant a 5% discount.
I received a message from Milly He that they did not have the item in stock and that delivery would be 8-10 weeks.
I then cancelled the order and asked them to return my money - and subsequently exchanged some emails with Milly He and Brian England which I can understand from this blog that several others have tried before me.
I then managed using the internet to find a connection between John Christopher and a certain Graham Cohen from Aynesley Walters Cohen Ltd. I wrote a mail to graham.cohen@awcltd.co.uk explaining my problem which immediately after triggered a reaction from John Christopher who now promised me the refund. It then took a few more mails to/from John Christopher (john@cohenandchristopher.com) and involving Graham Cohen again before I finally received my refund in full yesterday.

Metropolitan police
ALWAYS ALWAYS inform the met police as they have jurisdiction over this.
And the more complaints they get them more they have once the hammer falls on these "modern thieves"

and what is the prize ?
an inferior and cheaply made chinese counterfeit knock-off of a modern classic ?
was it really worth all that to save a few schillings ??
as i said before, folks who buy knock-offs from these companies ALMOST deserve to get ripped off !

Chewbacca Rugs simmer down
Don't espouse your holier than thou, always buy an original bullsh*t. The fact of the matter is many people cannot afford to pay $2500-$8500 for a single chair or couch that we all know does not cost near that much to manufacture. Sure the knock offs are not as high a quality but the affordability shows you that the cost of manufacturing does not merrit the exorbitant prices lines like Adelta, Kartel, Ligna Roset etc. charge for their products. If the knock off companies can make an almost identical chair for $500 and flip a big profit, why then are these companies charging $4500 for the same item, probably produced down the road or at least components produced down the road in China or India.
If you can afford to buy a $10,000 chair, good for you. If you're not a millionaire then why should you not also be allowed to enjoy affordable modern design. Your snobbery and "I told you so/ you got what you deserve" attitude doesn't make you look better, it actually betrays your lack of perspective, sensibility and class.

ohh nooooo
Dear Robert
I am sorry to hear that you have been the victim of these criminals.
The best I can suggest is to call the accountants and ask for Christopher Cohen.
60 Moresby Ave, Surbiton, Surrey KT5 9DS
+44 20 8390 3344‎
He has a connection with the company.
alternative is to contact your credit card company and try to have the money refunded.
I would also call the Metropolitan police in london as they have jurisdiction over these crooks.
Once you have filed the fraud report I would send a copy to MCD so they can see you mean busines
Good luck and percevere.
Simon

Italian Classics Direct
I am sorry to hear about some of you not receiving anything from these jerks. I have to say I have had a horrible experience with them as well but guess that I am luckier than some.
I ordered a whole set of furniture for my apartment as I was on a tight budget but wanted higher quality than Ikea. I was promised within 2 weeks but it has now been almost 2 months and I have been getting the things delivered to me in random deliveries. I had to sleep on the floor for the first week until they delivered a mattress while I waited for the bed! At the moment I have a kitchen table but no chairs, a mattress but no bed and a promise that it will all be here by next week.
The quality of the stuff I ordered has been fine but the service is absolutely horrible. I will never buy from them again and would strongly recommend against it unless you do 3 things;
1) only pay a deposit, DO NOT pay the whole amount (I did which is Stupid!)
2) pay by credit card so that you can get a refund (I paid by direct debit which was Stupid!
3) Be prepared to wait..a long time!
