Can anyone tell me how to get more information about furniture I recently bought? It has a disc on it that I've since learnt is a manufacturer by the name of France & Son. There are numbers on the pieces. How can I find out more about them??

Lana, you could go to...
Lana, you could go to www.furnitureindex.dk, click on "search in furnitureindex" and then just type France in the "Maker" search-box. Then a long list of pictures and info of various furniture from France & Søn will appear. Please let us know what you have bought. I've personally owned a few chairs and tables from this company, all in excellent quality and design.

France & son
Hi Lana
France and son was one of denmarks great makers of furniture having in their designer stable names that we today "drool over"
Finn Juhl, Ole Wanscher, Peter Hvidt Orla Mølgaard Tove & edvardt Kind-larsen just to name a few.
France and son was originally stated as France and Daverkosen after Mr france moved from the UK to Denmark and met a fellow cabinet maker MR Daverkosen.
Later on the company became France & son as Julian France joined in his fathers footsteps.
sadly the company was sold to CADO (poul Cadovious) in 1964 and was continued under the CADO name. Poul Cadovious was a character and loved the nightlife so that lead along with financial difficulties to the demise of CADO :o(
So with no further blabbering from me here is a little advert from CADO.

Thank You!!
Thanks to all of you who replied to my initial message. I appreciate you taking the time to help me. Thanks to M. Anderson's post, I went to furnitureindex and found one of my chairs and the sofa! When I entered 'France' in the maker, teak as the wood and the 60's, my one chair is Record #17 and the sofa is #20. The stool and high back chair aren't pictured. The high back chair is kind of interesting because the angle of the back can adjust.
The designer is listed as "Works Design" and was made in 1960. I'm guessing this isn't one of the designers you now 'drool over' but I don't care. I bought it (even though I have absolutely no place for it) because I love how it looks. And . . . I paid CDN $450 for all the pieces. It has been recovered but the wood is in amazing shape.
Thanks again for providing me with some interesting info. If any of you know any more - I'm all ears!!
Lana

FRANCE AND SONS METAL LABEL NUMBER
I have a large Rosewood Table that is possibly a Conference table. It has Rosewood and Aluminium legs, very well made and carries a France and sons label number 6821440. Any ideas! Already tried the Danish design index.
