no mine is white but the lovely lady across the street got the black arco from Flos , from a store in NYC, cause she was so impressed with mine, that i had purchased when i was in the city.
we called the store and they sent the black one out cause they had it on the show room floor.
I think it is good looking it is not a pure black kinda dark grey with lots of veins going through it .
When it first arrived we thought that it was broken, cracked, but the show room gal assured us it was just veining that you can not see in the white marble, any way everyone is happy.

jeff i just went across the street to see the lovley lady any excuse is a good one ., and hers does not not have that number system or no book,
We got them at a store in NYC that sold Flos lighting and i saw hers on the floor as a floor sample and asked if we could buy it in the black,
I have a feeling that those lamps are just like the Eames
lounge chair, commerative issued chairs that had the medallion on the bottom and you got the book,
the same chair is now being offered everyday by Herman Miller just cheaper and not called the anniversary edition.

Thank you so much for going to all of that trouble. Your information goes against what myself and many others that I have contacted thought which is that the black based genuine Flos Arco floor lamps only came as the numbered, signed and certified Special Editions. I wish that I could get a definitive answer on this. I'm going to have to try and contact Flos USA. Do you happen to remember the name of the store that it was purchased from?

i do not remember the name but i do know that it was in Soho in NYC and i will try to find the name they had high end Italian furniture including the arco lamps and other nice things they also had a store in the furniture district of NYC and that is where the black one came from,
.
I know an "older" interior designer, who has told me, at one time you could order the genuine ARCO in several stone types/colors..he cant recall fine points, 80 plus years old.In interior design, many things esp. in the past could be special ordered .I also seem to recall in period ads: Arcos in white of course and a dark color. The arco is indeed a very fine classic lamp design.
