I think some of the coolest...
I think some of the coolest flatware was designed for airline's first class passengers. There were some great designs. You can often find them on ebay and some sites specialize in selling airline flatware.

Always aim high
BTM,
Why continue to think about run of the mill Italian or German stainless steel flatware. Nothing make Cheerios taste better than sterling silver. My choice for modern is Elsa Peretti by Tiffany & Company. You always get what you pay for.

HENNING KOPPELLLLLLLLL
WTF ? ? ?
How com no one is talking Henning Koppel ? ? ?
Get on it.
Most of his designs are still in production.
Although it might not be the most economical choice, it's grace and feel should out-weigh most contenders.
The AJ is quite nice but just never really enjoyed the feel. A close friend owns an set & every time we dine I'm thing more about how awkward the stuff feels and less about what I'm eating.
As for the 2nd choice thrown on the table.....I'd go with the Lauffer Design 3. It would also serve as a very wise investment as well. Just check out www.wright20.com to view images and past auction prices.
And last, give John Pripp a look-see, he was an amazing silversmith working under Reed & Barton.
Cheers & Good Luck
