Do we have enamel fans and collectors on this forum?
Can you guys starting posting photos of what you have from your collection? I (and I'm sure many others on this forum) would love to see cool enamelware (pots, pans, serving bowls, plates, tea/coffee sets, etc.) especially the mid century modern kind from Dansk Kobenstyle, Cathrineholm, Le Crueset, Copco, Descoware, etc.
Believe or not I just purchased my very first enamel cookware piece but it's not marked so I was hoping to get some info on it from someone who can ID it for me. It's a big platter or bowl with handles and from handle to handle it's 16.5" long. Any guess? I just love the look and feel of this piece but I don't even know what it's used for!

The one weird thing about this piece of mine is that it doesn't have the Copco Michael Lax marking on the bottom and that the bottom is completely enameled with the color of the whole pan as opposed to being exposed raw cast iron like all the other pieces I found online. Does this mean mine is a later or earlier version?
some of mine
I love enameled cast iron and steel and I have a bunch of pieces but everything's packed away right now until I make my permanent move in a few months. I had to filch a few photos from the internets.
First one is a Timo Sarpaneva pot for cooking a whole fish (maybe?). They are pretty rare and I've yet to see one with the original wooden handle that doubles as a lid-lifter---which is too bad because it's a thing of beauty in and of itself, in addition to being an ingenious design. I have only used mine once in 7-8 years and I will have no room to display it so I'm finally letting it go---sob!
Second is not rare at all but I adore it and use it now and then. It's a little Michael Lax pot on a tealight stand. I love the shape and simplicity. Perfect balance of form and function.
Last is another Copco piece(s) that I got at an auction and kept for a little while but then sold it because I knew I'd never use it, and again, had no room to display it. It is pretty rare. I cadged this photo from a current ebay listing, so they do come up now and then.
Heavy metal
Although I have a lot of Le Creuset and Descoware pots and pans that I've picked up cheaply through the years I only use a couple of them regularly. The large cast iron enamel pans are way to heavy for this 97 pound weakling. I know most people rave about how great they are for cooking but I'm totally satisfied with lightweight aluminum or stainless. The ones I do use are the yellow roaster which has almost all of the enamel worn down on the inside and the red stock pot which is enamel on steel so doesn't weigh so much. The stainless pasta steamer which fits inside is perfect for steaming veggies. I also have a Le Creuset dutch oven by Enzo Mari with matt black enamel. Many think that it's raw uncoated iron but it's not. As Spanky has noted, the Timo Sarpaneva pot with wood handle / lid-lifter is definitely a thing of beauty and I'd like to get one for display.
Yeah, those Copcos...
...I have this one below in yellow with white interior and I love it so much. I use it often. It's the 3 quart size. I got it for a couple of bucks at a yard sale. I would LOVE to have the whole set, each size in a different color, but they're pricey on Ebay with shipping, and I don't have time to go to yard sales anymore, so it might not ever happen. In the meantime, I have an 8 quart Descoware Dutch oven that I use a lot. (Cheesedanish, I don't lift it much when cooking, just ladle out of it.)
Mark, your kitchen is impressive!
Yes, well,
impressive in that it looks like it is used and used well. Two ovens!! I'm so jealous! I'm getting worried about doing Thanksgiving dinner with just one smallish oven (though it's cobalt blue inside, which is kinda cool---will look really good with the hide of a roast turkey).
Back to the subject: I used to go to a junk auction every week years ago, and one Friday morning I showed up and there were eleven pieces of Dansk Købenstyle, including a stock pot. It was mostly red but there were a few yellow pieces. I got all of it for $90 and would have gotten it for a lot less except for one woman who bid against me because she had a kitchen done in red and wanted pots and pans to match. No other reason, just that she liked red. I sold most of it right away and the rest later, after realizing I didn't use it that much.
