I saw the ad at the top of the homepage promoting Herman Miller's Embody chair at Smart Furniture.

I didn't think this was out yet. Is this just a promotion of their exclusive design tool or are they actively for sale now!?!

The link is www.smartfurniture.com/embody in case that ad goes away soon.

They've actually been on sale since last fall/early winter (I think it was either October or November).

According to HM's press...
According to HM's press releases, this is their retail launch so no one could really buy one until March 2nd.
I thought it was launching in the summer but this is a pleasant surprise.
Has anyone had the chance to try one out yet?

Embody Chair
I sat in one the other day--I can't say that I know what it is like to sit in it all day, but for the few minutes i sat in it--it was the most comfortable chair i have sat in. I really really want one. I have tried that custom tool out on SmartFurniture.com--very cool. I got to the end and it was $1495--ouch (even with free shipping). It says that is the best price--can that be right?

I bought the embody you can...
I bought the embody you can get it for 1,150 CAD in Toronto Herman Millar. But I must say after sitting in it for 1 week I don't really find it very comfortable in the seat area and lower back these flexors actually do not distribute pressure very well at least for me. I find it poking and has actually made my lower back and butt very sore. I'm not sure what all the hype is about, it's a pretty comfortable chair as far as chairs go, but it's certainly not worth the price tag. Perhaps there is a break-in time but so far it's just a really rigid chair compared to the give of an Aeron it's not as comfortable overall. Thing I can't figure out is why there are no posts about people who have tried this chair. I'd love to know what someone else thinks!

embody
HM touts the whole distributed weight feature of the chair, but the real advance is the upper thoracic tilt mechanism. As you lean back in the chair, the upper back flexes to keep your chest upright and your head balanced above your shoulders. In doing so, it allows you to work in a reclined position without neck strain. There's a companion desk that was designed with the chair. The desk is also made for a reclined work position, and slides into a inclined working angle as it is drawn toward the user.
