Thanks all! And mgee, I try to do my best. There aren't many other choices were I live. This is actually the first time I've stitched leather. (But I have been stitching fabric since I was 2 years old or so, and it just isn't that different). I have had an old 1908 Singer 31-15 for almost a year, which a friend lent to me. It took re-timing the machine to get it to stitch, and then the machine is intended for high volume fabric stitching (not a servo motor, but a normal motor with a clutch for speed control), so it generally moves needle at a blinding rate. I had to be very careful with the pedal to keep the clutch slipping, or it would jump through a foot in the blink of an eye. But the very important part is that it pushes the needle through the leather and the makes the stitch. My wife's 8th grade graduation dressmaker's machine, which I usually use for upholstery fabric, is just not powerful enough for upholstery leather.

The chair looks great, nice work. I am interested what type of oil finish you went with? The grain is more noticable and it looks very nice. Tung Oil, Danish Oil? Is the chair walnut?

I usually use a combination of oils to build a finish. I think I used a Walnut Danish oil for a couple of coats first, and Then a couple more coats of Formby's Tung Oil Finish. But I might have used a little teak oil in the middle too.

Leif-What is that sculpture on the table next to the sofa? Looks very cool.

I will take photos of it for you. It is a mobile/sculpture.
