Hello! It is my first thread in the forum. Thanks all in advance!
Few weeks ago a rocker Eames chair with a vintage shell and a fake modern rocker base. No labels or marks whatsoever. I am new in the Eames vintage world and would like your input:
- do you know the date of the shell?
- Are the shock mounts original?
- what base do you think the chair originally had? (if possible to know)
Thanks!

The large shock mounts are earlier production (most likely pre-1958) and your chair most likely originally came with the X base. This looks like 2nd Gen. Earlier shells were not emobssed with a logo.

Thank you, those are good news.
How do you know it came with a X base? (for me to learn)

The impressions on the mounts indicate an early X base. Hard to tell what height though.
By the way, at this point you could use any height standard 1954 (or earlier)
solid X base, such as dining height or lower "lounge" height, and it would still be "correct". The mounts would probably show the same impressions.
