I'll say this...
If it is indeed a knockoff, no way it's whiteonwhite. It's built solid as a rock. And as I'm sure you all can see, the upholstery is very tightly done. Sits right. Looks right. If it's not Vitra, I'm at a loss. The seller got it secondhand in very strange circumstances so there'll be no tracking the origin. Only difference I can find aside from the natural walnut legs is dimensional height, 33 1/2 as opposed to Vitra's stated height of 32 1/2. Could it be an earlier Vitra production? Perhaps a special order? It can't be a vintage refurb because it smells factory and looks factory. Glides barely even have any wear. Thoughts, anyone? How could I pursue this?
And yes, Ale, please do enlighten us... What say you?

If it looks like a duck...
... and quacks like a duck...
Lunchbox, the chair you show in the photos is identical to the ones I saw at White Furniture in NY. Same color fabric (they also had them in black), same color legs, everything is exactly the same. Like I said, I was surprised (impressed) at the quality compared with some of the other pieces they have knocked off.
If the only places that sell that chair is at White Furniture and through Vitra it's a safe bet that it is one or the other. And due to the fact that it is not marked, that color fabric is not offered on the Vitra chairs and the natural finish on the legs matches the White version, think odds are that it came from White Furniture.
Either way, it is not an original vintage example so who cares. If you got it for a price you are happy with, use it and enjoy it.

Fair enough...
You didn't mention the fact that you'd seen chairs of the same swatch at White. Shocking really. Their demo photos look like dump. Doughy upholstery and all. Obviously, I'm quite surprised at the quality as well. Thinking I may keep it either way. My wife is reveling at the prospect of actually owning a cushy side chair. Hah. As Nick mentioned, this is a fantastic design to stuff in a corner in the bedroom. And barry, don't insult my stuff anymore. (-;

Ha ha...I didn't insult nothin', bub
the chair shell is graceful; the legs are not. It was an award winning, embryo design that was improved upon individually by both Eames and Saarinen afterwards.
It's getting old of constantly being thought of as the bad guy, whether you're joking or not. So, (jokingly) put a sock in it, huh?
