Besides the tons of plycraft models around, can you suggest a high quality knock-off, preferrably one that is available now? Boltz.com has one, as well as someone on ebay, which is made by Kinetic furniture. Anyone familiar with these? These two go for $800 and $900, are these going to be of terrible quality at that price? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Ewww
I've seen the original plenty of times and it is SO comfortable and the quality is just really there.
In terms of knockoffs - Whiteonwhite.com has one for about 1000$ that is okay. I dunno how it will hold up long term. Thats the issue with knockoffs. I have an old plycraft knockoff and its a little creaky when it pivots - but has stood up to the test of 30+ years.
Also - if you're going to go with Eames, get a knockoff that at least LOOKS like the original. That one you linked to is just plain ugly with those weird tall feet. (IMHO) Even the plycraft I have mimics the original better than that.

Look at the photos
Look at the photos: there are 3 different chairs pictured. One has big bolts through the armrests, the other two are stock photos of actual eames chairs.
They also list it as both walnut and rosewood in the same listing.

eames chairs
after fixing so many of the chairs always try to buy a good plycraft or selig stikk the best and they have there own great look to them and believe it or not. They are more confortable than the Herman Miller 670 chair ( they may not be as good looking or iconic )
After 50 years they a re still out there and can be recovered for
350 to 450 while the Eames Miller cost around 900.
For your money they are great and well accepted you can buy a new stand from various vendors. and the wood is easy to touch up with steel wool and lemon oil , and windex on the alumium stand ,

I agree
I agree with LRF. It cost me 400$ to completely overhaul my very very comfortable plycraft chair. I would trade it in for an actual 670, but only for a licensed version.
Imagine buying a rewrite of a great novel...all the nuance, the quality, the characteristics that draw you to it in the first place - would be missing.

eames chairs
check out furniture fancy.com
I saw one of there chairs at a party last night and it looks damm good for $1500.00 with the seemless sides ( the base was ok. but the chair would get a B + A- in my book and I own 4 of these lounge chairs. I think that company and Alphaville are the same or same factory in China as Alphaville and furniture fancy make wonderful reprodutions . White on White makes the worst, There stuff barely makes out of NYC to your home town with out it arriving broke . I think that company makes more money from UPS or Fedex than from customers ( after they pay off for all that breakage that happens from there shipping don't even think about a tulip table it will never make it in one piece to your front door
