Hello folks!

First post on this fantastic website that served me so well.. I know a lot has alreay been posted about this furniture icon. Still, I'd like to know when Vitra started producing this chair in Europe and in what quantity?

I'm on the verge of buying one at an interesting price (with an architect reduction things always looks nicer 😉 and it only has the black vitra label sticker on the front lap. Quality seems excellent, chair is really heavy (Vitra dioesn't mention the weight)but it's the first time I buy from this second hand store so a little more information is welcome..

Your advice is more than welcome,
Thanks!

In fact the basic question...
In fact the basic question is: what are the most common aspects to make a difference between a fake and real La Chaise?
- It has the black vitra label onder the front lap which seems genuine
- What kind of specific details do I have to look for?
- The weight?
Thanks guys!

Tips
Hi nschuy, I have two tips for you (however I advise you to be sceptic if you haven't seen the original one before buying the chair). Is the Chaise you are mentioning the one that appears in the second pop-up of the link I have posted below? If so, the first test you can do consists on touching it. If it feels too soft it is likely to be an imitation. Also the original Lounge Chair is generally heavier than most imitations.
Hope this will help.

Thank you Antonella for your...
Thank you Antonella for your reply.
First of all the finishings are perfect and the chair is really heavy, I did the test, we had to lift it with 2-3 men. As for the "softness", well I don't now how you define it but I do consider it as being soft, just like th one i've seen in a vitra store.
My sole hesitation is the absence of the white label with number + production date.. It has the black one which seemes genuine compared to the vitra i've seen.
Any idea of the real weight of the chair? can't find it in vitra's tech infos..
Many thanks for your help and time!

Softness 🙂
It's difficult to describe softness 🙂
How much does the Chaise you want to buy cost?

How would a fiberglass chair be soft? Is it made from fruit roll ups?

Fibreglass?
I think it isn't made of fibreglass. I think we are talking about Lounge Chair & Ottoman designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956. See the link below and click the 2nd icon to open the pop-up.

Softness...
The fakes tend to have more of a gloss finish, the real has a more dull/ flat softness and not a slippery gloss. Try licking it and if you taste fruit, you know if must be authentic.

Fibreglass????????????
Fibreglass is a harmful material. I don't think it's made of fibreglass.

loose threads
When I see this particular piece I allways picture Bette Davis circa All About Eve, waving around a 12 inch lit cigarette holder and saying to no one in particular "is it a chair? is it a sculpture? Who can tell"
