I bought this in the late 1990?s from a guy in Michigan. He told me it belonged to a former executive at Herman Miller who had it in his office. When he retired he ask if he could keep it and they gave it to him. Could this have been made when Herman Miller/Eames changed the ESU leg configuration from six legs to four? Perhaps Herman Miller/Eames experimented with different materials for the legs during the transition? An Eames ESU prototype or factory creativity?
great cabinet
I found a very early Nelson cabinet. The precursor to the thin edge, and at first I was told on this site that it was someone messing around in the studio. There are numbers stamped on my cabinet on the back and the underside. I call HM they were kind enough to turn the info and pics over the the archivist and found out that it was in fact a prototype. You should contact HM as well as Eames office and one of the two will verify it for you. I love it and wish it were mine good luck.
Don't Know, Do You?
Interesting ESU storage Unit. I?ve never seen one with Walnut side panels. They were all produced with Masonite side panels, as Herman Miller referred to as colored, being Model C or Neutral, Model N after the series number whether it be a 100, 200 or 400, etc. And I have never seen an ESU with Walnut tops or shelves as well. Has anyone ever seen an ESU with Walnut side panels and Shelves?
