I tried to look back and sour...
I tried to look back and source the examples I was thinking of, though could not find it. Anyways, I believe these were available in fabric. Herman Miller was always happy to upholster their chairs however the customer wanted, so you most commonly see black leather due to its broad appeal, while other options must have been available. To give an example of my logic, I have a Herman Miller catalog from the early 60's and another from the late 60's. They both list the Eames 670 lounge being available in naugahyde and cloth as options. I've never seen any, however, made that way. I would send an email to the editor of the eames designs website. He is incredibly knowledgeable and would surely get a kick out of it. Great find! I would love to see pictures! Details may help to confirm , but I do believe it could have surely been ordered in fabric.

David
thanks for information...
thanks for information David, good idea to send a mail to the eames website.
I would do that next days.I also think it`s original because it looks like but i`ve never seen another one. Here some photos without armrests because the chrome where in a really bad condition, could`nt touch without a piece of chrome in my fingers,so they have to be new chrome plated.
Hope they will be back, sometime.
thanks again!
Most lovely chair, waldorf.
And I have no doubt that it appears to be an Eames product...because of the base, etc. But how odd that the base is in such pristine condition, and yet the ( missing) arms shed their chrome onto you tender fingers?. My similar Eames pieces (but not quite the same) are polished aluminum with a clear lacquer finish. There is not chrome.. But maybe I'm just buzzed. oh god.
Thanks for the post,
Aunt Mark
edited to correct poor spelling. so sorry.
Mark, you bring up an interes...
Mark, you bring up an interesting curiosity! I bought a large quantity of soft pad management chairs made in 1999 a couple of months ago, which were clearly at some corporate office and sold by an office supply place. The arms were chromed! I thought it was so interesting, as all of mine prior to that were clear coated (only on the arms).
Does anyone have further info about chromed versus coated arms? The soft pads were surely not taken apart and chromed by this corporation. Were they chromed at some point in time, but not others?
Regarding the condition of your chair, here are my thoughts. There is a possibility that the upholstery is completely original. I'd say that holds the highest likelihood. It is also possible that your chair was reupholstered very well and refurbished. The base has definitely been polished (hopefully not chromed). It also appears that the rest of the chair was well polished.
For the arms, you may consider forgetting the chrome and simply having them polished.
Looking at pictures on the Eames designs website again, isn't this chair the one that is incredibly difficult to disassemble and reassemble? Wouldn't you have to eliminate the tension holding it, then slip the arms through each side, then re-apply the tension? It may be quite a task. I have to use an attachment on a car jack kit every time I get an aluminum chair that the seller annoyingly disassembles. Please share your thoughts.

David
I've got an answere from...
I've got an answere from Daniel Ostroff eames design,
he wrote qoute: There was a time that they were offered with chrome
so it's entirely possible that the chair is completely original.
Yellow hopsak sounds correct, and note, this is not common hopsack, but
a special line of upholstery fabrics with high performace characteristics especially devised by Alexander Girad for Eames and Nelson furniture. unquote.
I should sent him pictures of the chair including as many details as possible.
Oh yes i would do this, this evening and hope to get as many informations as possible.
First i'm happy that the chair could be original. ;-))
