But before I toss it, would it be possible for me to remove all of the white mesh..leave the hard vinyl brown straps intact , and wrap the chaise in some sort of a thin rattan? or cording? or hemp? or drill holes into the brown straps and screw and glue pre-cut wood slats? or just introduce it to the dumpster? The aluminum frame is in perfect shape, but needs repainted/powder coated. Any thoughts?

With love,

Aunt Mesh

ps I'd replace the mesh, but I have 2 other contour lounges wasting away in storage up north...and the mesh is way expensive to replace.

.....
Where I live, I can set such a thing on the street, and in about ten minutes a scavenger or scrapper will stop and pick it up.
I picked up a pretty decent white Eames side shell off the side of the road a few weeks ago.

That's probably true everywhere.
If you put it out by the dumpster, it'll be gone before you get back out there with your next load of trash.
Be aware, though, that there's no way it's going to end up on someone's patio as a treasured MCM find; it'll be sold to a scrapyard for fifty cents a pound.

Isn't that a Richard Schultz design for Knoll?
Isn't that a Richard Schultz design for Knoll? Mid 60s thru ?
Dumpster/curbside is probably not what you really want to do but there's nothing wrong with passing along nice design pieces that way it you don't think it will just be scrapped. It's got too much potential IMO to scrap.
To answer your question, I'm sure the mesh is replaceable. It's just a matter of whether it's a DIY job you'd want to tackle or one you'd want to hire out.
Not a job I'd want to tackle, maybe Knoll has replacement bits?
EDIT: I should strive for better reading comprehension . I see now that you already addressed the cost or replacement mesh. Regardless, that's what I would do rather than wood boards or rattan or whatever. If you want wood or rattan, trade the lounge for something else and let someone else give it a go.

Depending on what
framework supports the vinyl-and-mesh cover, a new seat of wood slats might be contrived and fastened. Anybody got a picture of this chaise denuded of its cover ?

Thanks all.
I will put in on a 24 hour notice... before dropping it off on the curb. Please somebody...I'll give anyone a nice bottle of wine, some used false teeth, and possible a couple of old Domus magazines if you could just come and remove the god damn thing. And yes cubby, it's Schultz66.

Gone.
Our building maintenance man gladly accepted 20 bucks to make it disappear (residents are not permitted into the dumpster area...).
Many thanks to all, Snappies of the re-invented space coming soon!
Fondly,

.
A much better look has happened on my patio on this rainy Monday. I saw some large (very heavy) cobalt colored blue urns this morning (probably over scale)..and I might just go back and grab one of them. I feel a green thumb and a decent manicure coming on.
Nose rubs and hot tubs to all,
