I would strongly advise against buying a Dyson. I bought one and it worked well for a year and then lost suction - even though the advertisement claimed that it never would. Dyson provided a major new part and again it worked well for a while but reverted to poor suction.

The small plastic parts - brushes, etc are also too easy to break. I think Dyson are only too aware of this because they are willing to replace even out of guarantee. However the machine is a boring liability and I now have a Miele which is much better designed, is more compact, works better and looks better.
Cheaper too!

The staff in the relevant John Lewis department said that Dyson uprights were OK but that the cylinders were rubbish. They recommended Miele

So true
Everything Annette said is true.Another negative thing about Dyson is the cleaning of the filter(very messy). Before i decided to buy a Miele i went to different forums and people's experiences with Dyson were 80% negative.

Advantages of Miele
It has 6 levels of suction, easily adjustable by a dial on the outside, the brushes fit inside the casing (convenient for storage), the main rod thingy onto which the brushes and turbo heads fit is telescopic and the colour is a tasteful matt dark blue..........

I concur. Have had teo Dysons, both were nigh on useless after a few months despite changes filters etc. Actually bought myself a Miele funnily enough and never looked back, fantastic.

No problem here...
We have a Dyson since 2001 and it still works like a dream. Never had any problems with it. Even though it has been used by several cleaning ladies who managed to break all kind of other stuff in the house...

love my Dyson
We've had a number of vacuums and now have a Dyson with which I'm quite happy. I ditched a Nilfisk for it. The Nilfisk is pretty good but the Dyson sucks better.
