Hello all,
I'm interested in furniture design for several years now, actually since i bought my first apartment and had to decide what furniture i would like to acquire (couldn't wait to get rid of my half broken dorm interior).
I really appreciate the work of designers like Louis Poulsen, Charles & Ray Eames and Eero Saarinen and manufacturers like Knoll, Cassina and Vitra.
I was wondering, is there a kind of standard piece of work in book form? A kind of "furniture bible"? With a comprehensive historical overview of designers and manufacturers
All tips are very welcome 🙂
Best wishes, Simon

- Design of the 20th century by Charlotte & Peter Fiell, Taschen.
- Modern furniture 150 years of design, Fremdkörper Studio, h.f. Ullman.
Both are excellent ressources. And pretty cheap too.

Simon,
All books are inexpensive when compared to the knowledge imparted. Here are a few more:
1. Charlotte and Peter Fiell Designing the 21st Century for Taschen
2. Giuliana Gramigna and Sergio Mazza Repertorio Del Design Italiano 1950 - 2000 for Umberto Allemandi
3. Phaidon Press Design Classics with Konstantin Grcic designed case (1st edition version is a must)
Enjoy
