I've had this pepper mill/salt shaker for quite some time now and I cannot figure out how to open it in order to refill. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The wood looks more like Afrormosia than teak, but I could be wrong. Also it appears that the wooden bottom is removable... What is hiding above it?

Interesting that the mechanism is by Tre Spade, Italy. From what I understand it was the earlier mills that had this mechanism, as opposed to the Peugeot grinder.

I think the wood might be Mutenye perhaps.
If you grab the grinder mechanism (perhaps with a vise grip), can you then unscrew the top?

I do not think there is an exposed, rotating part of the grinder that can be grasped with a tool, as the grinder cylinder rotates within the metal collar that can be seen around it.

There are some references here to there being a "pull apart" Dansk mill, where the two parts are held together with friction, but I am not certain that is what you have. I think your pepper mill is a quite early, and pretty rare version that has some value. I would take care not to damage it trying to get it open.

tchp - Thank you for the information!!! I agree..I'm afraid of damaging the grinder with a hand tool. I've tried to pull the pieces apart by hand and they don't seem to budge. It's a beautiful piece..I'll just place in on a shelf and enjoy it as a sculpture.
I thought the bottom panel might be removabe also Leif..but it's solid..doesn't move at all.

maybe it got wet at some point? Or salt worked it's way into the gaps? I HAVE to think the top twists off? Friction, yes. I have seen similar one's that do that but I have never seen one exactly like yours.
In your situation though? I'd probably just leave it alone as well.....a lovely piece
