For an Eames Lounge Chair to...
For an Eames Lounge Chair to be "authentic," it should be licensed by Herman Miller, Inc. Herman Miller owns the design and "Eames" is now a registered trademark of Herman Miller, Inc. The fully licensed chair and ottoman set usually retail for around $3000 in the US. However, this chair has been copied numerous times and fakes are widely sold.
You can go to this link for full measurements and some of the finish options of the authentic version: http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=0943
(I don't work for DWR, they just came to mind when I was looking for a link.)

Herman miller and Vitra
Hi Boyce. The Eames lounge chair and ottoman (670/671) is manufactured by Herman Miller in the US and Vitra for the European market. The HM version will have a HM label on both the bottom of the ottoman and chair, the Vitra version also has a vitra sticket on the bottom, plus a white sticker showing the date of manufacture. If you are buying second hand (and not too sure about the chair), the first step is too look for these labels. Other common differences of "fakes" compared with the HM and Vitra versions is that the ottoman swivels (it shouldn't), and bolts that show through the plywood where the armrests attach. Ebay has lots of examples of "eames-inspired" or "eames-style" chairs to look at. Though most sellers admit that their chair is not the authorised copy, there are some people selling knock-offs as the HM version. These as the ones you should be worried about. Some look very close. Caveat Emptor.

Question
Hello, I have found one of those chairs at an antique shop in Brussels. The wood is dark (almost painted in black) and the leather white. It has the sign Herman Miller at the bottom of the Ottoman. I have been told it was a limited collection in the Sixties and I have been asked 6,900 Euros, which is more than what I am seeing in your messages. Am I being charged excessively by far? Can it cost that much really? I am ready to pay it, but I want to be sure its price is correct.

Query re Eames lounger
Can someone please tell me if the Eames lounger chair tilts? I'm looking to replace a lovely leather "rocker" recliner which is about to die on me, but I definitely want a chair that I can gently rock in. Many thanks.
