Hi,
Can anyone help me ID this chair? I have these two pictures from the broschure. The chair is called the 'Kanagroo Chair' and was manufactured by Brown Saltman in 1964.
The broschure also states 'Selected for excellence of design by the Pasadena Art Museum, Pasadena, CA'

Brown Saltman was my family's business.
I just decided to google the name and
see if anything came up. I was thrilled
to still see items of Brown Saltman
furniture. I do believe those are the
Kangaroo chairs. I have a pair myself
that I inherited from my mom. I am see-
ing my Great Uncle this weekend. He was
the president of the company and I will
try to get some answers! I know he will
be happy to know that people are still
enjoying the furniture!
Yes, the name of the chair...
Yes, the name of the chair is the 'Kangaroo Chair'. The seller of the chair thought it was designed by George Nelson, but his Kangaroo-chair was a completly different chair.
If your Great Uncle knows the name of the designer, it would certainly be interesting to hear. Unfortunately the chair has now sold and I missed it...
It is nice to see how relatives of great designers and manufacturers of Modern furniture finds this site and joins the discussion. I remember a relative of Tony Paul joined a while ago, but I haven't heard any news on the website she was talking about setting up for her grandfathers (I think it was...) work.

I never know how these chat things work.
I did ask my Uncle if he kept any of the
catalouges and he hadn't. I may find
an ID number on my chairs but they are
at another house and it will be awhile
until I get there. My family were quite
ahead of their time, that is for sure.
I am the only one who seems to be more
traditional. I do have a great appreciation for great design and I know
Brown Saltman was really respected for
that.

just saw a oxicon table 15 minutes a go for $125 with the brass metal patina on it.
I thought that was fair some dude has two on 1st dibs and i was going to look at his ridiculous price. but i am forced to contact dealer ( i hate that they want to bull shit with you more than likely, i will get some schmeal that this was made by mr. Brown for Mr. Saltman when he retired from the company and instead of a gold watch he was giving him this table, Here goes nothing.... i am sending him a email the 125 .00 buck table he wants a jillion dollars for......could be Eisenhowers or Nixons from the 50's

and possibly assisting you in selling anything you might wish to auction

it could help get these items hot to the collector market

Interested in Brown & Saltman
Need more information on Brown Saltman for an acquaintance who wants to sell her furniture. It's beautiful. She said it was called "tangilly" but didn't know how to spell it. She said her family owned a furniture store in Los Angeles and Brown Saltman was one of the lines they sold. I've been looking online, but the info is sparse. The furniture is incredibly beautiful. Please tell me how I can find out more about your family's business.

I just saw the Brown Saltman kangaroo chairs in a chic little store in Brentwood and googled it and didn't realize I had done all this over a year ago! For the person that wanted to know if my Uncle was Percy Soloty... Yes he was! He passed away about a year ago but I was so happy to be able to tell him how many people were still fans of the line he really made so beautiful and well respected!
