Snagged at a thrift shop and we've had this for a while, searched and searched for any clues but have come up empty-handed.
This is a roughly 6" x 4", three-footed dish made of cast metal. It weighs about a pound and has no markings at all.
None of the finish or patina is worn away which makes me think it could be bronze (vs. brass) but honestly, I don't know what I'm talking about.
It's a keeper - just interested to see if anyone here might be able and willing to share some knowledge.
Thanks in advance!
test it...
if it is cast iron, which doesnt seem in question, but good to rule it out, try a magnet. if it stick it is a ferrous metal (cast iron}
otherwise, in a inconspicuous area scratch it using a nail/screw...no need to get carried away....brass is much softer than bronze or even copper and should scratch rather easily and in time- either way, tarnish will obscure the scratch
as to what alloy of bronze or brass it may be, thats for God to know...unless you want to ruin the piece 😉
p.s. looks like bronze to me
