In my opinion when to comes to pillows, you must know when to stop so as not to detract from the flow and form of the piece. I cannot totally dismiss the concept of pillow accents on furnishings, as I feel it can add a nice touch, if done tastefully. Too often it is overdone and they are used as some sort of fabric badge of decorating taste. Like giant trucks or sports cars the use of pillows can represent over-compensation.

.
Next time you visit Mum secrete a few food scraps, preferbly seafood, within the pillow.
I think its a (false) sense of comfort and luxury people are after, you see it on bed displays in shops, how anyone can sleep with all that crap no idea.

The Eameses...
...had too many pillows on their couches. Also, too much stuff on the end tables, along the back of the sofa, and on the floor.
There.
(I would kill for the rest of it, though.)

Funny...
I still love it, don't get me wrong.
But I imagine the amount of breakage from accident and incident, upon toe stubbage, would be astronomical if I lived in that place.

If I remember correctly,...
If I remember correctly, Charles often expressed his displeasure at Ray's "clutter" (according to Pat Kirkham's biography of the Eameses).

It is a little heavy on the clutter.
In the second photo, what's the thing peeking into the lower left-- looks like an enormous hot dog. And, I never noticed that ladder to the ceiling before-- what do you suppose is the purpose of that?

I have sofa just like the white one
posted by the OP - it has slightly angled sides (as opposed to what looks like a 90 degree armrest on the Adrian Pearsall sofa). Mine has a tag that reads "flexsteel, dubuque, iowa". Likely not too valuable but wonderfully long for stretching out. I was wondering if anyone could offer a ballpark idea of the cost of reupholstering it (dimensions are 108"L X 33"D X 21"H). My cats like the current nubby material a bit too much!

the Eames
sofa compact, though, is not long and low--it is, in fact, not graceful in any way (though I find it endearing)--those pillows don't detract from it because it has no lines to spoil

Blue Chair?
Can anybody ID the blue chair in the first post of this thread? I actually have the same chair in a golden yellow color but the only tag on it appears to be one that was added by a local store when it was sold. Any input would be great, as I haven't been able to find anything like it before randomly stumbling onto this thread. Thanks!
