There used to be a thread floating around about this, but I'll start a new one. What are your biggest hits AND what are your biggest misses? For me, selfishly, the misses are always worse than the hits are good...
Hits:
Svend Madsen curved teak desk - $60 USD
HP Hansen for Arne Vodder? curved four sliding door credenza - $60
Peter Lovig flip top desk - $60
Pair of Sigurd Resell Falcon Chairs ebony with black leather - $25 for pair
Misses:
Teak two tier Kurt Ostervig credenza and floating hutch and danish bar cart - $200
Paul McCobb Desk - $20
Multiple floating top danish desks - $40 - $100
Pair of Orange Herman Miller arm shells - $30
Illum Wikkelso Rocking Chair - $80
I've had many great hits but a couple of my faves:
Wegner J16 for $15 at auction (actually I almost missed it because someone was talking at me and i didn't notice the auctioneer started down the row in the other direction--he was already several bids in when I happened to look over that way!)
Two Panton flowerpot light fixtures, orange, brand new in original boxes for $3. I sold both for around $300 each--kinda wish I'd kept one but they don't really go well with my other stuff so i guess it's ok.
I've missed plenty of stuff but the latest one kind of rankles---a rosewood Westnofa armchair with black leather cushions listed for FREE on my local Freecycle. I don't look at the listings because there is so much junk but they send me an email update daily. By the time I got it, it was too late. OH WELL.
My wife and I have had a few great ones both ways lately.
Hits: early Eames RKR-1 at an estate sale for $140
Bert England for Johnson and Company dining table with the brass legs on CL for $30
Grete Jalk rolled edge end table at an estate sale for $40
Misses: Poul Jensen selig coffee table and 2 end tables for $350
Kofod Larsen high back rocker on CL for $300
Dux dining table and chairs for $250
Those are just some from the summer.
I have one that doesn't fall in either category yet, yesterday I spotted 2 yellow zenith rope edge chairs on a porch and I've gone back twice to knock on the door still no answer:(
Biggest miss: a rare blonde Noguchi coffee table at an auction, before I could stomach paying 800 bucks for ANYTHING.
Biggest hits: a pair of Eames ESUs (4x and 2x) for 29 and 39 bucks at Goodwill in 1999. (They were painted grey and had no legs)
The 6 foot long Arne Vodder teak case from 1959 for $180. A Nelson string clock for $2.
