.
Can see why living with your own work would seem odd but it could be for some that when there is a prototype or failure knocking around and in use having the time to experience and contemplate it and refine or make improvements is worthwhile.

A collector's POV, EH...
Rarity has nothing to do with the relative success or failure of a design.
Does it serve a function? Does it serve it well? Does it look good whilst doing it? Is it cost efficient/sustainable?
These should be the first questions we ask ourselves.

I bet they furnished their house with the furniture they designed because they got a really good deal on it. Cheap SOB's. Just kidding. But seriously, they were probably mega rich and yet they lived quite simply.

Thats right lunchbox
I agree.
I dont think I like what I like just because of rarity though.
I think it has to do with the looks. The angles. And the weirdness. And as I said, I realize that most on my list were not well functioning designs.
The good news is that they were all "works in progress" in many ways, sort of like mass scale "studies" that led to better designs down the road.
Just fun to see the process.

Like most of us I would...
Like most of us I would guess, things just tend to get out of hand after living at the same place for a while...
As far as failed designes go I can only share my least favorite, that dowel leg rectangular table (not sure of the name)

norms snappies of the Eames interior do the room more justice. I particularly like the polished concrete floor surface. Interesting to see a Knoll Womb chair in their lovely home.
Best,
Aunt Mark

Not exactly a flop..
...but I've always been intrigued by the college built-in wardrobes that the Eameses designed and that Herman Miller put out for a few years before discontinuing. I can't remember the name of the line, but it was circa late 1960s, early 1970s, and it's in the black-covered Eames Design book by the Neuharts. I don't think it sold particularly well, and unlike most of their oeuvre, it's never been revived.
