Even though I have a number of floor lamps, none of them illuminate my living room enough. All point down or are isolated.
There were so many beautiful floor lamps from the 1960's that lit up the entire room (the Facet Lamp by Roger McClay and the Arne Jakobsson), but can anyone suggest a cylinder-type lamp that illuminated top and side? I'm not keen on a florescent....I prefer incandescent or halligen.
Love to hear your opinions!
Barry, I have the Colombo...
Barry, I have the Colombo Alogena lamp for Oluce (first designed halogen lamp in living areas) - halogen powered and VERY bright! It's also fully adjustable and emits a lovely soft light with the setting turned down. However, it isn't cylinder shaped and I'm guessing too 'clinical' for you?
No...that's nice
But what I really want is a 5 or 6 foot tall fairly slender cylinder or cylinder-type lamp that doesn't use a florescent (it strobes too easily and is often noisy), with a dimmer switch, which would off warm bright light. I know there's paper shades out there, but I'm trying to find a plastic or strong linen shade that'll last.
My living room has windows and is bright enough during the day, but without a ceiling lamp (other than my large cigar Bubble which really is more environmental, rather than bright), the living room is fairly dark. I'd like to find a lamp that fills the room with light.
Artemide has a lot of the kind of thing I want (Tirso, Atreo, Promesteo, Chimaera, Megaron Terra), but I bet they're real expensive.
Paul Mayan
Made some wonderful designs for Habitat. He used "Lumacryl" plastic which gives a very nice diffused glow. This is one of his floor lamps we have. It has a 3-way switch and will cast light up, all-over, or both. The base has nice subtle detailing and the construction quality is very good also.
To consider
I found a couple lamps at hivemodern.com or see the link for the Noguchi Akari floor lamps. The Noguchi lamps give off a nice bright light, there are more versions than I remembered.
