The Somnambulist. http://musicophilia.wordpress.com/2008/12/17/sensory-replication-no-5-th...
62 tracks merged into one in under 42 minutes, covering music clips from 1908-2007. It goes from spooky to calm, to ambient, to house, to industrial, to all over the place, and back again. It really goes beyond just ambient, but is a wicked sounds/tones album as well, and is a free download. I found it one day searching George Harrison. He's one of the tracks in the set, from the Electronic Sound album. It's a wicked late night Friday jam:

I like truly ambient sounds...
....even more than ambient "music".
I do respect what ambient music attempts to do, but I dont listen to music.
I actually prefer the din of distant traffic, or birds, or wind or whatever is going on nearby.
Its always there, and it is usually far more interesting and varied than music, which to me is often too self conscious and contrived.
Like right now, there is a pre dawn owl that wont shut up...
Pure stark beauty. An...
Pure stark beauty. An absolute favorite of mine.
There is not a single approach to "Listening".

Howdy EH....:)
That's my favorite too. I prefer noises, tones, and signals over music. That soundscape cut by PF is just that. Jets, dishwashers, lawnmowers, animals, water, radio signals, cars, frogs, saws, etc... It's really cool.
The George Harrison clip is only noises created with the moog synthesizer. It's pretty out there. No music.
The snowball clip by moby is like that too. Probably his best ambient cut, because of the lack of music.
We have a
couple ambient channels on tv. What they call ambient, and what I call ambient though are two totally different things. I've never heard any ambient cut even close to soundscape, or electronic sound.
Supposedly PF was gonna release an ambient album of noises they used, and never used. Don't know what happened.
You could
probably say that about Harry. Since he was so enthralled with the sounds of nature, and what come out of it, I would presume there was a lot of noises going on at his place.
John Lennon used to always say when they were playing live:
"We've got a new song out. Or electronic noise depending who's side you're on."
