Hello all, I recently purchased this chair from an estate sale. I believe it is an original Papa Bear Chair by Wegner, but I can't be sure. Two things I've noticed, my chair has a bottom cushion seems to have springs in it and is a different shape than others I've seen. One exception to this is a similar one at: llector.com/Hans-Wegner-Papa-Bear-chair-AP-Stolen-Denmark-c-1965-teak-upholst_i6698106 Also, my chair has no maker's mark or Danish stamps on it. However, on the bottom there is a circular area that looks like it may have once had the Danish sticker on it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Eric llector.com/Hans-Wegner-Papa-Bear-chair-AP-Stolen-Denmark-c-1965-teak-upholst_i6698106

I don't think that seat cushion
is original. I do think the chair looks authentic.
I would bet that someone long ago didn't like the feel of the thinner foam cushion that was original to the chair, so they had the chair reupholstered and asked the upholsterer to stick a sprung cushion in there. He went with the pre-formed cushions that are standard for a conventional armchair but that are much too deep for a Papa Bear, hence that overhang in front.
Alternative version: upholstery fabric is original and somehow the guy who made the sprung cushion got fabric to match. I only offer this theory because it seems unlikely that the same person who would put that seat cushion on the chair would also do such a nice job on the rest of it, but what do I know.
Fun video below of the chair being upholstered, which apparently only takes ten minutes. (har har har)

Strictly speculation
But I like your first version, spanky, with one twist: the person who owned the chair was an upholsterer himself. Then the contrast of the cushion and the perfect workmanship makes sense.
Is it odd to anyone else that it is upholstered in a twill? Seems like it would be a hopsack?
.
Thank you all for your help! I'm super excited by this find. Picked it up at a yard sale this weekend. As much as I love mid-century modern, this piece just doesn't quite fit in with the rest of my room. That, and I've run out of space! Any ideas of how to go about selling it? Ebay? Craigslist? How in the world do people ship such large items?
Also,
don't get rid of it right away. There was a time when I thought Papa Bear chairs looked odd and weren't something I wanted in my place ever. But they have grown a lot on me and I am glad I never had the chance to sell one back when I wasn't so in love with them.
This has happened with a number of things for me---both stuff I held on to that I wasn't sure I liked and then later I grew to love it, and stuff I got rid of and later really regretted.
So, think about it for awhile before you do anything rash. That's all I'm saying.
Thanks all!
I'll think about it before selling, but really I'd have to re-do the rest of the living room for it to match. Plus, there is the issue of having room for it, which my little "chair collection" precludes. This, coupled with an upcoming move of residence which could definitely be assisted by funds from selling the chair, makes the prospect extremely tempting.
One more question, do people ship such large items? Seems like there would be a service for this, but it also seems a bit of a hassle (not to mention expensive).
