Yes, I live in Denmark. So...
Yes, I live in Denmark. So I'm afraid it will be far too expensive to buy them, have them shipped safely, pay VAT etc. Perhaps it would be better for him to sell them at a larger, well-established auction-house. The picutre I showed you was from Wright20, perhaps you should find out how much they sold for?

Thank you M_Anderson
I think perhaps we will pursue Sollo-Rago or Wright auction houses in Chicago. Unfortunately, my dear friends' poverty comes as a result of some particularly nasty demons : i.e.. alchoholism and bi-polar disorder.
Why is it that all so often these things are the burden of those who bring beauty to the canvas?
If they sell at audction,The money will be welcome, his finances are rather desperate. I am doing my best to be a supportive friend to him. Thanks again for your input.

As mainstream/dull as it sounds sell them on EBAY.You very well may get more esp after all the fees for a conventional auction...Photograph on a solid red ground.

I would imagine the red background would create a dramatic color statement
marketing...you know!

Maybe
it would stand out on a thumbnail search, but I would expect these to be items that were search specific?
a red background would annoy the hell out of me..
Better a plain white, or a nice homely setting?

Let's meet in the middle.
- Or a red floor and a white background.

If you can show me just one furniture seller
that employs a red background to good effect, I will concede ;o)

HOW TO PHOTOGRAPH
You should always photograph on a seamless white, seamless black, or neutral gray background.

Here are the actual chairs in Blue
... and against a white background because that happens to be the color of the walls.

Finally ChrisG with an answer...
Finally ChrisG with an answer on background. White/light or black/dark, depending on your object that needs or wants to stand out.
I continue to be amazed with the number of folks on ebay who absolutely bury their sales item with their background. Photography is an art, and difficult at best, but the basics should be almost intuitive.
