None of us have met the former owner, so we don't know how credible he might be. I can see plenty of ways that Denmark and Norway might get confused in this case, though. For instance, if he imported it himself, then perhaps he bought it in a store selling danish modern in Denmark, and it happens to be that he bought a Norwegian chair. Also for plenty of people all Danish modern is from Denmark, even if it is from Norway, or Sweden, or Finland.

I'm with ya, Leif. There is, without a doubt, a lot of assumptions and jumping to conclusions when it comes to "Denmark" or "danish." I guess I feel more confident in the owner because of our conversations. He was very precise in everything we spoke about, and his reference to Denmark was very factual in nature. He's not a danish furniture fan, or anything.
He was a US diplomat in Indonesia at the time (1969). He explained that, due to the remote nature of the area, a local business imported furniture from Denmark. You are correct in that there could easily be a slightly different reality, though.
Fortunately for me, I'm truly just as happy either way. Because that chair is soooooo comfortable. 🙂

I looked up Ring Møbelfabrikk and it does appear there is reasonable evidence that the company supplied stock tilting bases for other companies. (for instance: http://www.designaddict.com/forum/General-discussion/De-Sede-DS-51-Chair...).
So, maybe it is not such a good lead. For what it is worth, I still think you should consider the entirety of Scandinavia as a possible origin for the chair until better evidence turns up.

Thanks, Leif. I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. I'm content with Scandinavia, but willing, and even a little hopeful, to learn more.
