I've been nerd-ing over early Egg Chars for the last couple evenings, trying to determine the age of a chair I might purchase... Thought I would share what I found.
But first, some things to note:
1. Fritz Hansen has produced an Egg Chair time-line, portions of which are included below. It seems to clear up exactly when the tilt option was introduced and exactly when the base was changed to two parts. It also gives a date for the addition of the seat cushion.
2. I have assumed that the number on the Fritz Hansen decal is a date stamp, mm/yy.
3. I believe that the metal base components might be a good way to date a chair, or exclude it from a certain time period.
