I picked these up on Craigslist last week for only $50. Seeing as I needed some barstools for my place anyway, I decided that whether they were authentic Umanoff stools or not, they were still a good find. From what I've been able to find on the internet, they are. However, I have a couple of concerns: the iron is white (could be from a refinishing job at some point), there is cardboard - yes, cardboard - inside the rush on the seat backs (also from a poor refinishing job?), and there are no swivel mechanisms on the stools (not sure if there ever was a version of these stools that did not swivel). I'm crossing my fingers that they are in fact authentic. Hopefully, someone out there knows! I can take more detailed photos if needed.
Thanks,
Mandy

Hi,
I can't speak on the originality of the white paint or of the swiveling mechanism, but I do know that the cardboard is actually original to the pieces! It was used as padding. I have an Umanoff iron and rush ottoman, with its original rush that also has a few pieces of cardboard in there.
I'd say that all signs point to these being legit. Congrats on the great deal and find!

Thanks! I was so sure that the cardboard was not original. Very good to know it is. I am thinking about refinishing them, as the white paint is wearing and there are small amounts of rust here and there. I don't even like the white paint. I would like to remove it and paint them black. A few of the pieces of rush have torn at the top on the back of 2 of the chairs. I found a company online which sells rolls of the stuff for under $15. The wood slats are in great condition [even the nails are solid] but they look like they could use a good cleaning and polish. I don't normally like to refinish anything like this, but it seems like they should be restored to their former glory!
