did she say that in a movie ?
I recall one of those odd 'forties black-and-white cartoon shorts that included charachitures (why can't I find this word in the dictionary ?) of movie stars of the day. I'm pretty sure Dame May Whitty was included. Do you have a photo ?
We could turn this into a relevant topic by quoting movies or stars on design issues. . .or just showing interesting movie stills ?

No...I assume the quote was a quip she made
for a magazine for some interview...or possibily something she quipped at a gathering that was quoted.
In case you don't know her, she was Miss Froy in Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes" and the old woman who took in Lassie in the original movie "Lassie, Come Back".
She was one of England's most loved stage actresses...she was born in 1865!

That kind of style just doesn't seem to come around anymore. Paul Newman is gone and the only one left now with that kind of style is Clint Eastwood. Star just are very starry anymore. They're all so tabloid now-a-days....sigh
