Admittedly there have been a lot of threads on the Eames shell chair....hopefully no one will mind another.
I bought two armshells last year. Elephant gray, no stamps, only one had a paper label, regular shock mounts, a little more than average fiber content, lounge height zinc h bases, a bargain at $7 each...
The zinc bases however, have metal feet I've only seen once before. Is it an older base or just a standard order ?
Is it reasonable to assume that because the shells have no stamps whatsoever they are older (pre-1960), would that fall in line with the bases as well?

Third generation glides
After the dome of silence and boot glides, before the nylon glides. I believe these were only used for a brief period of time around the mid-1950s.

woodywood...
Thank you for that...I had been unable to source any real information on these particular glides.
If they were only used for a brief period of time I can't imagine they were discontinued because the feet were prone to snap or break easily. After 50 years or so, those bad boys are on there solid as a rock, and show no sign of failing any time soon.
